Exercise KEVADTORM (SPRING STORM) is currently underway in Estonia and first images of the live-fire phases have been released showing heavy artillery in action.
The primary aim of this annual exercise is to validate the 1st Infantry Brigade’s units and sub-units at the end of the training year. The main emphasis is on the brigade’s infantry battalions, which are mostly formed of conscript or reserve soldiers, but the professional Scoutspataljon (the elite Eesti Scouts) also participates.
In addition the brigade’s artillery, combat engineer, air defence and logistic battalions are also participating. This year the British-led NATO eFP (enhanced Forward Presence) battlegroup is also taking part.
According to an Estonian Defence Forces press release, almost 300 soldiers participated in this artillery phase of the exercise. The Allied Battle Group artillery unit also participated with AS90 self-propelled howitzers. The accompanying images were taken yesterday, 10th May.
